Have you read The Complete Persepolis? I think you would like that. I'd also suggest A Bride's Tale by Kaoru Mori (manga) and… probably some other stuff, but I'm drawing a blank right now. Let's start with those two.

I'm so sorry Chew wasn't quite your taste, Rachel (sorry, couldn't help myself with the pun there)! But I loved hearing your 'why nots', and have now immediately put Sweet Tooth on hold at my library! 🙂

I am a avid reader of comics, and I just couldn't get into Chew either. Feel free to check out my channel if you like comics. I sent ya  a goodreads friends request.

I've heard of Chew a couple times and thought it sounded interesting but gross. Now that I've heard a little more of what really makes it gross… I think I will have to pass because erk.

Sweet tooth does sound very interesting but not necessarily like something I want to read right now. I'm interested in your thoughts on later volumes though!

I definitely can understand not digging Chew. It wasn't really for me. I haven't read Sweet Tooth yet. It's on my list. I really like Jeff Lemire's work. You should look into Descender by Lemire. It's so good and I think it's really up your alley.

I definitely recommend Lumberjanes, one of the most delightful comics ever!

I didn't care for Chew either for the same reasons.  Pretty Deadly is another popular graphic novel that I read but didn't care for.  I find that I prefer more memoirs when it comes to graphic novels.  I loved Guy Delisle's Chronicles of Jerusalem and  his Burma Chronicles was pretty good too.  He has two other graphic novels, one sat in China and the other in North Korea. So I'm looking forward to reading those.  The art isn't great but it fits somehow.  Rat Queens was cute and The Amulet is a beautifully drawn comic and fun story.  Great reviews as always!

Thanks for the honest review on Chew! I've seen this one around BookTube and I'm definitely don't think I can stomach it.

"Sweet but not dumb" is the perfect description of Gus!  It's not an easy character to write, especially in a post-apocalyptic, everyone's-out-to-get-you setting.
